My Birthday Present

What most amazes me is that He always seems to know what I want - better than I do! For my birthday, I hinted, suggested and outright begged for what cnet was calling a Mobile Internet Tablet. Larger than an iPhone but still a mobile device that wouldn't read websites full size but would use the stripped down views like m.google.com. My intent was to be able to surf teh interwebs more often, more comfortably and not have to use His eentsy weentsy Blackberry keyboard. The MID seemed to be the best solution, especially since we really were not ready to pay for whole new a laptop. Our desktop recently needed some upgrades to fit CS3, so a new computer just wouldn't have been practical.

My growing concern was that He would surprise me with an iPhone or a Blackberry, since he loved his so much and seemed to be reminding me of its benefits an awful lot. Maybe that was on purpose to throw me off! My 3 year old little Motorola phone works and I felt no need to replace it with a phone that had more bells & whistles I wasn't using. The days before my birthday, I tried to pry out of him what my present was or if I could open it just a day early, pretty please? He would not budge.

On the eve of my big day, he promised that if I could stay awake for the ride home after dinner (a rare occasion) and stay awake until midnight, I would open my present. Fortunately for me, our delicious dinner ran to at least 10pm and I was wired from the good conversation and wine. I was wide awake at 11:50pm when he finally broke down and allowed me to open my present.

When I saw the size, I was relieved that it could not be a new phone and started to think it was Wii Fit or something entirely different. I really had no idea what it was!

It was a beautiful Seashell white Acer Aspire One...I was immediately in love before I could even get it out of the box. Most sites are calling this a Netbook, it's little and quick and so cute! A full qwerty keyboard, Linux based, packaged with a email/RSS reader/contacts manager combo, Firefox, a few games and not too much else. It's exactly what I needed and I didn't even know! I am on it right now...
